first direct looks to spread the love as it makes changes to its 1st Account

12 Mar 2013

first direct has announced that it is reducing the monthly amount people need to pay into its 1st Account. From 1 April the minimum amount new customers will need to put into its account will reduce from £1,500 to £1,000 and from 1 May for existing customers.

Mark Mullen, CEO of first direct , said: "first direct offers the best banking service in Britain, and is the only name in financial services to have been awarded the Which? Best Financial Services Provider for three years running. We want to give the same level of fantastic customer service to more people.

"In the last few years we've been focussing on making sure we continue to reward our loyal customers with the great service they've come to expect from us. However, we now feel the time is right to open our doors a little wider."

first direct is the only bank to offer a satisfaction guarantee for people moving accounts whereby new customers receive £100 when they join the bank and a further £100 if they decide to move because they're not happy with the service they've received.

Notes

The bank first introduced the monthly limits in 2007 in order to encourage stronger relationships with its customers by making the bank their primary account. Customers who don't maintain the average monthly balance could be charged a fee of £10 a month which could be offset but holding a further product with the bank.
