Following the 0.25% base rate increase announced by the Bank of England today, first direct has frozen its offset Mortgage interest rate at 5.00% (5.1% APR) until further notice. This means the telephone and internet bank has absorbed the impact of the base rate rise and shielded its offset Mortgage customers from the consequences.

On Monday (26 April 2004) first direct, the country’s most recommended bank, launches an account aggregation service for its own customers and non-customers alike. The free service, known as internet banking plus, will be available at www.firstdirect.com.

Today (16 April 2004) the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Neil Taggart, officially opens first direct’s new, extended workplace nursery at the banks’s main site in Leeds. first direct has completed an extension that doubles the size of its nursery at Stourton, where the telephone and internet bank employs 2,500 people.
