White Rose Ball raises £62,000 for the NSPCC

23 Mar 2011

The White Rose Ball, which took place at the beginning of March at the Queen's Hotel in Leeds, was a night not to be missed with fine dining, wine, a range of fabulous raffle prizes and live entertainment from Lesley Garrett and Janet Jay

The evening, organised by Alison Leonard (Head of OneHSBC Business Practioners) and her fellow Child's Voice Appeal board members (North), formed part of a year long calendar of events to help raise £1m for the NSPCC's Child's Voice Appeal.  The evening didn't disappoint raising over £62,000 (with funds still coming in) from ticket sales, raffles and an auction.

As well as wooing the guests with her hauntingly beautiful voice, including an emotional and poignant rendition of 'I dreamed a dream', Lesley Garrett donated a one hour singing lesson in her home which raised a whopping £3,500!

Emotions roller coastered as David Tait took to the stage to talk earnestly about his own personal battle. Abused as a child, he now takes on extremely physical and mentally challenging expeditions to Mount Everest, to help raise funds for ChildLine. Click here  to find out about his 5th expedition, which sets off within the week.

With untiring support from many people behind the scenes, and 20 beautiful young ladies who graciously conducted the meet and greets and help to collect the donations, the evening was an undoubted success.

first direct 's partnership with ChildLine will continue into 2011 where the focus will move to the impact first direct and ChildLine are having on the lives of children in the UK.  'Children Matter More' is first direct 's social leadership strategic focus in 2011 and will centre on its national partnership with ChildLine and the NSPCC, whilst also creating further partnerships to improve the lives of children locally.
